Railay/Krabi
sawateeka! railay is the most amazing place i've seen so far. there are hardly any tourists here, just rock climbers, so for the first time we hung out with the locals. there was live music and a fire show last night near our room, which was really interesting. today we took a kayaking trip to a nearby beach, at one point there was a downpour-- really awesome. taking a bus tomorrow from au nang to bangkok, then another bus from bkk to chiang mai. will be sad to leave my new canadian friends :(
i'll keep you posted as much as i can, gotta go for now. enjoy the photos! after tonight the 'vacation' part of the trip will more or less come to a close... on to the cultural stuff i love. i can't wait! hope everyone is doing well. xoxo, lauma
ps. zemen, it was open mic night last night & this girl went up to play a song, i didn't know it. these guys from the UK were chanting "one more song! one more song!" so she played two chords and i almost died. zem, of all songs, she played wagon. we were all dancing (it was a small outdoor place) and i was singing with my eyes closed as if you were here. after the second verse i heard her yelling away from the microphone in her australian accent "yeew! yeew! get ovaah heeaah!" i was like "me??" a thai guy adjusted a mic for me & the song went on... IT WASN'T THE SAME. i think overall the crowd enjoyed it but she started to sing my part, so i was trying to sing your part. i walked away after chatting with her a sec and as i walked away she broke out with 4 non blondes. seriously? seriously. so bittersweet. you were here in spirit last night. xo!

Ko Phi Phi/Rai Lay (Krabi)
sawateeka! i got back to my room the other day & my backpack had arrived! so after a shower, i went back to kata beach and watched a beautiful sunset. i also walked the town a bit, it's right by club med actually, so a lot of tourists (i have not met any american tourists so far, only europeans, canadians, etc) at night i went to bed early after watching an episode of law & order: SVU (obviously with thai subtitles) so that i could get an early start on saturday.
after a coffee and banana in the morning, my thai friends at bamboo village helped me get to the bus in phuket town, so that i could catch the ferry to ko phi phi, 2 islands that are about an hour and a half from phuket. (the lady was so funny, she saw me & came up to me, put her hands on my shoulders and on the sides of my torso & hips, then put her hand over her head, indicating she wished she was as tall as i was... i'm about 5 inches taller than the typical woman here...)
after the hour and a half ferry ride to ko phi phi i got a room for two nights at 700 baht (around $21/night). a bed, fan, bathroom & showerhead. yesterday i took a day trip on a long tail boat, a tour around all of phi phi-- bamboo island (my favorite), monkey beach (lots of monkeys!), a few coves in the area... went snorkeling in the bluest waters i've ever seen, saw the most colorful fish. we were 13 people on the boat, from barcelona, portugal, italy, france, the uk. after the sunset i had dinner with a few new friends, silvia/barcelona and bruno/portugal. it was an exhausting day, but really amazing. i got to bed soon after because as i learned the previous morning, my "rooster alarm" goes off at about 3:30 or 4am :). i have awesome photos i can't wait to post. today i took a boat to krabi and another boat to rai lei. i'm staying with two canadian girls i met in a bungalow-type hut (with a/c-- yay!!!) in ton sai. this island is probably the most beautiful so far (aside from bamboo island) because there are a lot less people and the vibe a lot more mellow. most people come here for rock climbing, the views/rocks are amazing! i'll probably stay here two nights before heading back to bangkok, and then i'll be on my way to chiang mai to meet up with mara leimane. woo hoo!!
re: photos, i've only uploaded from my iphone when i have wi-fi available. right now i'm at an internet cafe, so i'll post a few photos next time i have access to wifi.
i'm having the time of my life!!!

Phuket!
Hello everyone! The last time I wrote was thursday night around 1am. I
got to sleep ok, the room was very comfy! Friday morning I woke up
early (jet lag) and went back to the airport to catch a flight to
Phuket. I have already met so many interesting people, a diver from
the UK, an architect from Dubai, so many people from all over the
world... Everything interesting & exciting so it's going really well!!
Last night and tonight I am staying at a place called Bamboo Village
near Kata beach. Today I walked to Kata Noi and spent half of the day
at the beach, swimming, drinking water & eating pineapple. I just
finished a delicious curry chicken lunch (wow! This place has wi-fi!!)
and am stopping by my hut/room to see if my bag has arrived. Of course
it didn't come yesterday, ha ha! But it's okay. It's all about
improvising :) Tmrw I am planning on taking a boat to Ko Phi Phi and
spending a day or two there. All in all it's been a great, liberating
day. Thinking of you & hope you are doing well. Bucas xoxo. Ps. Mom
you would love the flowers here! I'm taking pics!! xo

I've arrived!
I've arrived in Bangkok after more than a day of travel. I'm exhausted! But the flight from O'hare to Seoul went by pretty quickly (14 hours). I caught up on watching new movies (I watched 4!), read a little, and napped. Had 2 decent meals: one with rice, vegetables, seaweed soup, another later with chicken and some unknowns (some kind of picked vegetable that was surprisingly good). Then from Seoul to Bangkok (5 1/2 hours). I'm at the Paragon Inn tonight, which is right by the airport. The room is super cute (also big!) and I was greeted with sweet orange juice upon arrival. My backpack is arriving the airport tomorrow (Tina, good thing about packing something with me on the plane, just in case... I guess it didn't make the connection from Korea), which is just as well because I'll be leaving from the airport for Phuket. It is hot here! I'm off to shower, brush my teeth and stretch out in bed. Bucas visiem xoxo :) Lauma
